2012 is a 2009 action disaster film based loosely on the 2012 phenomenon and directed by Roland Emmerich. The film has an ensemble cast, including John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Woody Harrelson. The film was distributed by Columbia Pictures. Filming began in August 2008 in Vancouver. The film is set in a modern setting and only brushes on Mayanism and the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. The budget of the film is $260 million, making it the 2nd most expensive film in history.
